The Shop is a Toronto-based jazz quintet carving its path in Canada’s jazz scene. The Shop’s sound is a cross-pollination of seemingly opposite genres. The band subtly combines influences of gospel, pop-punk, R&B, and African music with the band’s mutual foundation in jazz. The band consists of Bureh Bollo-Kamara on guitar, Connor Moe on saxophones & flutes, Omar Gittens on the drums, Racha Moukalled on the vibraphone (on hiatus), Joseph Funk on trumpet and Carlo Santo Domingo on the electric bass.
Kalabash is a jazz sextet, formed in Toronto in 1993, focused on using the steel pan as a lead voice in a jazz ensemble and dedicated to experimenting with the layering of rich jazz harmonies over the folk and popular rhythms of the Caribbean. With the release of the group's first CD in 2001, it’s apparent that the result of this fusion is a scintillating blend of North American and Caribbean contemporary jazz expression.
